We headed north from the Lakes into Scotland and up to Fort William. The cloud came down, the rain came in, and the three nights we spent there in a tent were cold and wet and miserable! Helvellyn – Lake District

Leaving from work on Friday afternoon we drove north and finally made Patterdale in the Lake district at about 10:30pm. The next day was a scorcher (the last we were to see of the sun for some time) and we made the most of it with a walk up 3100 feet of Helvellyn. We chose the more interesting route up, along a sharp narrow ridge known as Striding Edge which requires good balance, a head for heights, and a little bit of scrambling....
