We headed north from the Lakes into Scotland and up to Fort William. The cloud came down, the rain came in, and the three nights we spent there in a tent were cold and wet and miserable!
Ben Nevis, high on our to-do list, never emerged from the clag. We chatted to one couple who had been up on Wednesday and reported most of the climb in thick fog with snow and howling gales at the top. No view, and a little dangerous (other guided parties were turning back). We gave that one a miss (I’m not tramping up 4000 feet for spectacular views of the inside of a snow cloud!)
Instead we went for a saunter up Glen Nevis which was quite pretty but still wet and cold. Finished up at Glen Nevis distillery for a quick tour to warm up.
We’ll not mention the nasty case of food poisoning I picked up at a local hostelry, nor how incompatible such a condition is with camping. Just enjoy the photos and move on.
