Helvellyn – Lake District

Leaving from work on Friday afternoon we drove north and finally made Patterdale in the Lake district at about 10:30pm. The next day was a scorcher (the last we were to see of the sun for some time) and we made the most of it with a walk up 3100 feet of Helvellyn.

We chose the more interesting route up, along a sharp narrow ridge known as Striding Edge which requires good balance, a head for heights, and a little bit of scrambling.

Helvellyn, from the village of Patterdale up along Striding Edge and back along Swirral Edge.
